She has an extensive understanding of the cultural nuances and family dynamics that play a part in any young couple’s marriage.

Ms. Fontana has helped many Indian couples navigate the sex and intimacy issues that they face when forming a marriage. Couples that have started out through an arranged marriage have a unique challenge of getting to know one another while being married. This presents many challenges that the couple needs to face to establish a new relationship.

Skills that couples require, more than just compromising or getting along and letting things go, which is often the marital advice given, as couples need the following:

-Self-awareness and self-reflection to communicate effectively what they want and how to establish boundaries.

-Having good ability to listen in non-defensive ways about what your partner wants to hear and realize they are talking about themselves.

-The ability to have proper education around how sex in both the male and female body works, as well as the ability to navigate boundaries, such as initiating sex, turning down sex and other issues around that Couples often need help learning how to establish boundaries with family members and therefore in managing families

All in the Family Counselling Centre helps couples navigate the exciting and at the same time scary world of sex and intimacy.

Many people think sex and intimacy is focused on the mechanical engineering of sex, how to do it, when to do it and all the bits and bites. However, the most important part of sex and sexual intimacy is the mind.

The brain is the most important sex organ and in order for couples to have positive sexual experiences, they need good education and then a safe and healthy relationship in which they feel safe. In arranged marriages, in which couples spend less than six months getting to know each other, often online, they are going to face challenges of having sex because they are with somebody they don’t know.

And if you do not have first positive experiences or sex is painful, this can lead to more negative experiences.
